In the framework of Civic Engagement for EU integration in cooperation with University of Elbasan “Aleksandër Xhuvani” was organized the 10th Annual Roundtable on Gender Issues, a vital tradition that has fostered discussions on gender equality for over a decade.
This year’s conference, under the theme “EU Gender Equality Strategy”, gathered academics, international organization representatives, and civil society activists to explore Albania’s challenges and opportunities in meeting EU gender equality standards.
🎯 Key topics discussed included:
✔ The role of youth in promoting gender equality – empowering young people to drive a gender-equal agenda in society.
✔ Civil society engagement and public policies supporting gender equality – the challenges faced by women in Albania and how activism can lead to concrete changes.
✔ Education and media as tools to challenge gender stereotypes – the importance of women’s representation in media and how education can reshape societal attitudes.
📌 In the context of Albania’s EU accession process and the opening of Cluster 1, discussions emphasized gender equality as a key pillar of European standards and a fundamental requirement for strengthening democratic institutions.
📢 Key conclusions from the conference:
- The need to mainstream gender equality across all public policies, particularly in education and the labor market.
- Supporting women’s economic empowerment to increase their representation in decision-making.
- The role of younger generations in breaking traditional norms and fostering a more inclusive society.
This event marked an important milestone for academic and social engagement in advancing gender equality, reinforcing the vision of a fully integrated Albania within European democratic values.
💡 As we celebrate this 10th anniversary, we encourage all stakeholders and citizens to support the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025, ensuring a society where everyone has equal opportunities to reach their full potential.
