The media and journalists have an essential role in informing the public on the issues of European integration, which should have a greater and qualitative space in public and media discussions.
🇪🇺| Within the framework of the Month of Civil Society Engagement for European Integration, an open discussion was held today with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tirana, Mr. Reinout Vos and media representatives, who focused on:
🔘 The main challenges related to the reporting of the negotiation process for membership in the European Union;
🔘 Strengthening the role and engagement of the media and journalists in the process of negotiations with the European Union;
🔘 Exploring opportunities for the involvement and interaction of the media and civil society organizations in European integration issues.
Some of the important recommendations that emerged from the discussions held at this round table include:
✅ Increasing the awareness of journalists themselves on the importance of the process of negotiations with the EU and strengthening the critical role of the media in reporting integration issues;
✅ Coordinating the provision of information by the media with other social factors, such as civil society organizations, interest groups and the general public;
✅ Increasing the capacities and improving the technical knowledge of journalists on the process in order to inform the public as accurately as possible;
✅ Increasing advocacy towards institutions responsible for increasing transparency, accountability and access to information.
The following meetings with more representatives of the media and journalists are the focus of the project’s objectives, with the aim of further addressing the recommendations from this table as well as the involvement of the journalist community in the processes and results related to the negotiations for Cluster 1.
